Extracts are items derived from animals. The way they are created depends on the type of creature from which they are derived. Most currently have no known uses, except as their value in trade.

Producing extracts

A variety of buildings allow you to produce extracts.

Butcher's shop

Main article: Butcher's shop

Certain vermin will yield extracts at the butcher's shop by using the extract from a dead animal task. Requires a living caged animal, a vial, and a dwarf with the small animal dissection labor enabled.

Farmer's workshop

Main article: Farmer's workshop

With the appropriate caged animals and a milker, you can produce milk at the farmer's workshop.

Plant extracts are also produced at the farmer's workshop. Requires an extractable plant, a vial, and a dwarf with the plant processing labor enabled.

Dwarven Syrup is also considered an extract under the stockpile menu, and is also created in the Farmers workshop via "Process plants (barrel)"

Fishery

Main article: Fishery

With a living caged fish and a fish dissector, you can get extracts from our aquatic neighbors.

Import only

Currently, there are some extracts that cannot be produced on site and need to be imported.
