Fire snakes are fire-proof vermin. They spawn only around magma sites, which are defined as the original biomes, not channels that carry magma away from magma pipes or magma pools. They may start fires, so don't locate booze (or coal or graphite) stockpiles near magma (or passages leading to magma) - sadly, because they have [NOMEAT]
, your cats will not hunt them.
Fire snakes may be safely caught in animal traps made from wood or metal, though due to a bug they will quickly escape (with "live fire snake has burned its way out of confinement!") from any artifact animal traps made from wood or glassBug:6117. Captured fire snakes can be used to make Liquid fire extract.
