This article is about an older version of DF.

Metamorphic layers are often avoided since they are the type with the lowest variety of metal Template:Ls. However, they are richer in Template:Ls than any other type. Unlike Template:Ls, metamorphic rock can be found in the same Template:L as Template:Ls. As Template:Ls are almost always present in areas of Template:L, this makes Template:L the easiest Template:L to find on the same map as a Template:L.

(In real world geology, metamorphic Template:L is formed by an already-existing rock type being turned into another type while remaining solid all the way through, a process called metamorphism. This is not true for Dwarf Fortress.)
