Wizards can be modded into the game by giving them a civilization entity. In this state, you will find that they shoot fireballs at enemies, making them extremely dangerous to themselves and others.

In a similar manner, wizards can sometimes show up if you make some serious mistakes when [[modding]], or when installing a new version of Dwarf Fortress on top of an old installation. In this case, definition files will "get their wires crossed", so to speak, and you may find things ''extremely'' strange, more than just witnessing wizards hanging around.

Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.

A wizard is a magical person who is merely the stuff of legends. They do not actually exist, appearing only in engravings as the fancy of artists, as there is no such thing as magic. All dwarves know this, and anyone who says otherwise is surely an elven trickster.

Dwarf Fortress presently does not include a robust or finalized magic system, so they are in the game's raw object data only in order to allow them to appear in engravings.
