mud-haters united

I hate mud. Schm0 14:15, 1 December 2007 (EST)

Never understood the problem. My dwarves clean it at least once a year, just like blood and the likes... --Eagle of Fire 18:01, 1 December 2007 (EST)
Uh, read my article on the bug forum. Mud is only cleaned indoors. If you have it outdoors, it's tracked throughout the map and expands exponentially. It has taken me two winters to successfully dry my fortress entrance. Schm0 22:11, 1 December 2007 (EST)
Mud ruined my life! --Jackard 06:47, 2 December 2007 (EST)
This issue is fixed as of 0.27.169.33f. Toady One has disabled mud/blood spreading for the time being.
So much for my blood-temple to armok... --Frostedfire 03:02, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
Not so much fun if some toxic forgotten beast's blood spreads like hell killing all dwarfes and wildlife
Er, what's a "forgotten beast", and how can blood possibly be poisonous? --Quietust 16:27, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Outdoor mud

Mud doesn't automatically disappear during winter. That someone believed this is the case makes me wonder if it isn't snowfall which causes the mud to disappear, once the snow melts. I haven't played on a map where it snows for a while, so I can't test ATM. --Raumkraut 15:34, 26 July 2008 (EDT)

Evaporation causes mud to disappear. Also, the cleaning job is used (sparingly) to clean up mud, along with vomit and blood. In previous versions, evaporation only occurred seasonally.Schm0 16:56, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Making Mud

Is there any way to use a bucket and outdoors water source to intentionally make an indoor area muddy for planting purposes? --FJH 00:27, 26 February 2009 (EST)

Yes, you can. This article describes the process Activity_zone#Pit.2FPond.--Kwieland 09:35, 26 February 2009 (EST)

Safe Removal

Building a statue on a muddy tile clears away the mud but leaves the tile otherwise intact. Works on all floor types, even engraved stone and brooks. --Quietust 22:04, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Confirmed - engraved to +Fine+ quality, muddied, placed statue, removed statue: mud gone and engraving all good. I didn't check if the room value changed when muddied/unmuddied (or when statue was over engravings), but I think this is enough to add it to the article.--Albedo 22:37, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
It's already been added - I added my comment here mainly as justification for having added it (for those who don't read the article's revision history). --Quietust 23:10, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
A further test shows that animal traps also work, and they are unique in that they can be built on stairs and ramps. --Quietust 04:18, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
