The game interface is made up of several different parts. In the screenshot you will notice:

  • A: The left panel is the main game area.
  • B: The right panel displays the game Menu and indicating the relevant hot keys.
  • C: The latters indicated new Reports. Press r to view these reports. A red 'C' means combat, a green 'H' means hunting, and a blue 'S' means sparring.
  • D: The number of idle dwarves and current date.
  • E: The z-level you are currently viewing. Above z-level counter column, at top right, there is a moon phase indicator.

You can press tab to bring another panel that shows a mini-map of your embark site.
