Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.

Steel is the best common metal for smithing Template:L and Template:L. Products made with steel have a very high value, equal to that of Template:L.

Steel can be smelted at a Template:L by a Template:L with the Template:L Template:L activated.

Recipe

Steel production is fairly complex compared to the creation of other alloys. Note: in steelmaking, Template:L or charcoal is used as an ingredient, not as a fuel. If you are using a non-magma smelter, an extra 4 fuel is required to power the smelter (2 ore-to-iron smeltings, then the 2 steps below).

The first step is to create Template:L:

Produces:

  • 1 bar of pig iron

The second step combines the pig iron with more iron to produce steel:

  • 1 bar of iron
  • 1 bar of pig iron
  • 1 flux stone
  • 1 unit of fuel
  • +1 extra fuel OR magma

Produces:

  • 2 bars of steel

The total reaction consumes 2 bars of iron, 2 units of flux, 2 units of fuel, plus an additional 2 units of fuel if not at a magma smelter. This produces 2 bars of steel.
