The stone crafter skill is used to make stone craft goods, such as mugs, short swords from obsidian (and one wood), instruments, and toys, at a Craftsdwarf's workshop. Embarking with a Proficient stonecrafter can be useful for getting a head start on producing trade goods for your early exchanges with the caravans and, if you happen to find some early obsidian, provide short swords for your military and any weapon traps you choose to build.
