The Furnace Operator skill is used to make metal bars from ores at smelter, to melt metal objects at a smelter, and to make pearlash at a kiln. As bars do not have quality levels, the sole benefit to having a skilled Furnace Operator is the increased rate at which jobs are completed.
Unlike in later versions, Furnace Operator is a moodable skill, so it may be wise to further train any immigrant metalsmiths in their other smithing professions.
