This article is about an older version of DF.

Giant cave swallows are giant colorful birds which commonly live in chasms and caves. They are two sizes smaller than Giant bats but have the same attack power. They will attack your dwarves if they come too close, and are quite able to kill your average civilian dwarf.

The fact that they move through Z-levels a lot makes them hard to hit with crossbows.

Giant cave swallows are among the chasm creatures that reproduce; catching and taming them for breeding and/or fortress defense is worthwhile.

Do not confuse the initials of the giant cave swallow with those of a far more dangerous creature.
