The Chief Medical Dwarf is required to start all healthcare treatment of dwarves. He diagnosis the patient, then further treatment can be carried out as needed. This means the Chief Medical Dwarf should not be busy elsewhere doing other labors when several hurt dwarves make it to the hospital.

Appointing a Chief Medical Dwarf enables the Template:L. His only relevant skill is Template:L.
