The king consort (female: queen consort) is a male noble that arrives with a queen, a female gendered monarch, who herself requires a Duke to arrive. The king consort has no room requirements and does not show up on the nobles screen. He does not preform any meaningful function, and makes no mandates or demands. He is always[Verify] the husband of the current queen.
If an unmarried queen marries a dwarf, that dwarf will become king consort provided he does not have a more important noble status.
Interestingly, the plural form of king consort is not "king consorts", but rather "kings consort". This is because the "consort" serves as an attributive adjective and not a nominal portion of the noun phrase.
Gender
The female equivalent of a king consort is a queen consort, who arrives with a king. The spouse of a king is always named "queen consort" unless there is a higher precedence nobility title. Aside from the naming, the two positions do not show any meaningful distinction.
Succession
If the king consort dies, then no new king consort can be appointed until the monarch herself is removed from power. This is because dwarves will never remarry.
If the current monarch dies, then the consort will also be replaced[Verify] or removed[Verify] based on the martial status of the heir that assumed the throne.
