Animals category
This definitely isn't something people should have to add manually to every page. What pages are you tagging, exactly? I saw you tag some animal men, so I'm not sure what exactly is supposed to be in this category. —Lethosor (talk) 15:36, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
Some animals (such as Aye-aye, Aye-aye man, Giant aye-aye) were not in the category at all. Others had 1 of the 3 variants in the category, and not the other 2 (for example Barn owl was there, but Barn owl man and Giant barn owl were not). I also was not sure if animal men should be in the category or not, but seeing as some were already there, I decided to add the rest. I also noticed something that I wasn't sure how to fix. Blue jay is the counterpart to Bluejay man and Giant bluejay, but because the root is different (blue jay vs bluejay), they don't appear on each other's pages. —The Mastrod 00:06, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- My point is that it should be possible to add with at least one of the templates that's already on the creature pages, instead of adding it manually. I'm not sure if there's an easy way to fix the blue jay pages, unfortunately. —Lethosor (talk) 03:03, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- I don't really know how templates work yet. This is the first time I've edited a wiki. Is this something you can do? I'm going to keep on tagging things like this for now, until such a fix is made. —The Mastrod 03:27, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- We already have a "DF2014:Creatures" category that includes all creatures; how exactly will the contents of an "Animals" category differ? Note that "creatures" is a more correct general term since a few of the more esoteric creatures (e.g. Gabbro men) wouldn't typically be considered "animals" (they are essentially sentient stone), but I doubt it's worthwhile to have another category specifically to exclude the dozen or so edge-case creatures. ("Creature" also happens to be the game-term used in raw definitions so it's the appropriate wiki category name according to Rule G.)
- As for creature variations, you can override them on creature pages like this. Unfortunately that won't work on vermin pages because nobody took the time to plumb the necessary parameter passing through the five or so layers of templates.--Loci (talk) 03:55, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- The Animals category already existed, I've just been adding to it. If there is a consensus to delete it, then delete it. Until a decision has been made, I'm going to keep adding pages to it. —The Mastrod 05:53, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
I checked the general Animals page and it seems to refer to non-sentient animals. I can remove all animal men from the category that I've added/were already in there if there is a general consensus. —The Mastrod 07:18, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
So should the category include all non-sentient creatures, then? It looks like there's similar logic in the creature sidebar already to indicate when creatures can't be butchered (elf, antman, etc.), so that should be easy to add. —Lethosor (talk) 00:50, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
