If you're looking for a easy spot to start playing DF in, here's my advice:
Magma | Avoid | Adds temptation to flood your fort with lava |
Aquifer | Avoid | Usually above the rock you need to get at, and is hard to penetrate |
Biome | Temperate | Get Something mild, not hot or cold. Avoid savannah to avoid elephants. |
Wood | Recommended | Heavily Forested |
Plants | Recommended | Plants are food, so pick a spot with some or lots |
Flux | Recommended | having a flux layer is a good idea |
Metal | Cross your fingers | there's lots of iron and other ores... especially if you get a flux layer |
River | Avoid | Carp. |
Brook | Recommended | Water. |
- Getting a warmer temperature will mean that your outdoor water source will not freeze over during the winter. Otherwise make sure to get an indoor supply ASAP on settling. --Mey 02:52, 5 May 2008 (EDT)
