Fire snakes are fire-proof vermin. They spawn only around magma sites, which are defined as the original biomes, not channels that carry magma away from magma pipes or magma pools. They may start fires, so don't locate booze (or coal or graphite) stockpiles near magma (or passages leading to magma) unless you have ample cats [Verify] (Cats ignore snakes? See talk page).
Fire snakes may be safely caught in animal traps made from wood or metal, though attempting to capture a live fire snake from a kennel seems to fail (with "live fire snake has burned its way out of confinement!") if the animal trap was made from an unusual material as the result of a strange mood.
Liquid fire is an extract derived from fire snakes at a butcher's shop by a dwarf with the animal dissector labor enabled. It has no known use except as a trade good, worth 500☼ per vial (plus the value of the vial itself). A glass vial is required - for some reason, metal flasks will not be used.v0.28.181.40d
