Shale is a sedimentary stone. It can contain veins of cinnabar.
In Real Life
Shale is a fine-grained sedimentary rock composed of mud that is a mix of flakes of clay minerals and tiny fragments (silt-sized particles) of other minerals, such as quartz and calcite. It metamorphises into slate.
