This article is about an older version of DF.

Once your fortress has attracted the second tier of population, production, and trade nobles, the Count (or Countess) will be summoned.

The Count arrives with his/her consort and does not serve any known purpose aside from meeting diplomats (in place of the Baron), making numerous mandates, and producing large quantities of children.
