Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.

Dark Gnomes are creatures that can be seen in mountain areas. They will steal alcohol and plants related to alcohol production.

They usually wander around in packs of 5-10. They are moderately aggressive but not very strong. While 2-3 dogs will typically engage and defeat a pack of dark gnomes, the gnomes might prove a threat to an herbalist or other unarmed dwarf, especially if the civilian dwarf continually flees and does not defend himself. If there is no other protection available, the best way to save a dwarf in this situation is to draft him so he will fight back.

The only difference between mountain gnomes and dark gnomes is that dark gnomes have the [EVIL] tag instead of [GOOD] and are [NOCTURNAL] instead of [DIURNAL].

They're not aggressive alone and will only harass your workers, unless they come in packs, which can be really annoying as they might kill some of your workers.
