This article is about an older version of DF.

Rope reeds are almost identical to pig tails, but grow more slowly (by 3:5). They are the only surface crop usable for the production of cloth. They also make an average value booze when brewed into river spirits. You may be able to collect them by gathering plants near a river or pool, and you might also be able to trade for the plants or seeds from a (non-dwarven) caravan, especially an elvish one.

To produce rope reed cloth, you must first use the process plants job at a farmer's workshop to spin the plant fibers into thread, which will also produce rope reed seeds for replanting. Once you have spun the thread, it can then be woven into cloth at a loom by anyone with the weaving profession.
