Not to be confused with icons. Previously, symbols have been a mostly abstract concept in Dwarf Fortress, defined as part of the language system, and occasionally referred to in descriptions. v50 of the game has introduced some new, and occasionally interrelated features regarding this term.

  • If you are looking for symbols assigned to an administrative or noble position see Symbol of office
  • If you are looking for the tab of the same name, found in the Objects menu Ui O.pngO in fortress mode, see Symbols
  • If you are looking for symbols that can be chosen as custom squad icons see Squad
  • If you are looking for information about symbols as defined in the language files see Language
