This article is about an older version of DF.

Trapper is the skill associated with the trapping labor. Trappers are involved in trapping vermin through the use of animal traps. Trapper dwarves automatically gather creatures caught by an animal trap, and are prepared to tame it. However, should another, non-Trapper dwarf come across it, the trapped animal will be eaten, regardless if the dwarf detests it or not.[Verify]

To trap an animal, either query a kennel or Butcher's shop and add a Capture small land animal task. The animal can then, if it is tamable, be tamed.

The trapper skill is also used in creating animal traps at the carpentry workshop.

High-skill Trappers tend to be moderately useful to a fortress, only useful if you feel particularly elfy, but they sometimes come with more useful skills such as marksdwarf or ambusher.
