This article is about an older version of DF.

The lifeblood of a fortress, a Smelter uses Template:L to smelt Template:Ls into items or for Template:L existing metal objects. It's recommended that you have a lot of these to make sure the production of metal stays constant.

If all options in your smelter are red, you need Template:L - you cannot use wood without making it into charcoal in a Template:L.
