Talk:Thoughts and preferences

Presumably, for v50, this page ought to be a candidate for splitting and merging with Thought and Preferences pages (If there is even any difference between the combined contents of the pages in the first place). –Alpacalypse (talk) 19:22, 11 October 2026 (UTC)

If we do that, I propose we retain the page at least as a disambiguation, for anyone using Template:av to toggle between versions, since before the v50 update thoughts and preferences were on the same in-game window. --DarklingArcher (talk) 09:49, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Am just waiting a beat before diving into standardising the structure of all the relevant subtopics; but as I am planning to make a general "Personality" page as an overview of all the systems and sort of as a more in-depth disambiguation page, it could link to that instead. Do you think that could work, or would a disambig be better? Not sure which would fit best with the timelessness guidance. –Alpacalypse (talk) 13:40, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
Alternately, we could make Personality redirect here, since this page is already structured like what you are describing. And for the sake of cross-version wiki compatibility, I'm rather against using a different name for an article in each version unless there is a very good reason for that, it just makes finding stuff harder. Like how Trade good got renamed to Finished goods from v31 onwards, and going back versions from there leads to a stub instead of the main Trade good page. --DarklingArcher (talk) 16:30, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
Only issue I see with that is that the page title itself would be a pretty egregious breech of the timelessness guideline, which I think is a pretty significantly useful and prudent guideline to try and stick to; I've found it to be quite frustrating and confusing in the past when I have taken a page name at face value that is at odds with the current version of the game, and especially when it relates to something quite technical or specific, have actually had the wiki waste quite a bit of my time, when it should ideally be doing the exact opposite. Not a hill I am willing to die on, but I'd much rather try and take extra care over the stub issue — maybe I am indulging in cofirmation bias here, but seems it could be a case of putting convenience of editing above convenience of the average wiki user. –Alpacalypse (talk) 17:37, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
Oh and as a small clarification, and by way of further explanation of the above, I was envisioning the "Personality" page to be more of a overview of of everything explicit to the player and going on internally (basically what is tracked under "soul") rather than just the literal main tab on creature inspection. Admittedly in this sense "Personality" as a page name is somewhat ambiguous, but that is also kind of the point in that context (Ironically, "Thoughts and preferences" would be misleading because it isn't at all ambiguous in game terms {though still is between versions}). –Alpacalypse (talk) 18:03, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
