Workshops are the general area where work gets done. They can be built from almost any material, from the build->workshop menu. To start a task at a workshop, press q and move the cursor near to it.

A still is an apparatus used to distill liquid mixtures. It is a workshop in which plant material is converted into alcohol by a dwarf with the brewing labor enabled. Barrels are required to hold the finished product.The still is also used to produce extracts.
