Despite their name, tiger irons cannot be used to make tigers or iron. Rather, they are unremarkable low-value gems found in sedimentary layers.

In Real Life

Tiger irons are related to the tigereye and cat's eye gems, where iron striations in the stone give the appearance of a tiger's stripes.
