The Ashery is used for creating potash and lye from ash. This building is necessary if the player wishes to create clear or crystal glass, fertilizer, or soap. This building uses the "ashery operating" labor which encompasses both the potash maker and lye maker skills.
Unless it is desired to make soap, there is little benefit in making ash into lye, aside from the additional experience granted in the process of following the extended production chain.
