A wizard is a magical person who is merely the stuff of legends. They do not actually exist, as there is no such thing as magic.
In the distant past, before the first version of Dwarf Fortress was ever released, a Wizard would visit your fortress during a certain year and recruit a random dwarf to leave your fortress and go on a quest.
