This article is about an older version of DF. |
Obsidian is one of the types of Template:L that forms entire Template:Ls. Obsidian is also found surrounding magma pools and volcanoes, exactly 1 tile thick.
"Obsidian" is the also name of the twelfth month of the dwarven Template:L, covering late Winter.
It can also be made into obsidian shortswords with one log at the craftsdwarf's workshop. These are good at first to defend your fort from early wolf and giant eagle attacks. Note that a display issue currently exists that, when you make a short sword out of obsidian, it will be listed as a wooden training sword instead of as an obsidian short sword.
Obsidian Formation
Obsidian can be formed by mixing Template:L and Template:L. This results in any tiles containing both Template:L and Template:L to be replaced with obsidian, and produces a large amount of Template:L. Any objects that were in the Template:L or Template:L prior to the formation of obsidian are completely destroyed, which can be an effective method of removing unwanted items or enemies. Obsidian farming can be used to produce large amounts of obsidian for masonry, making crafts, or construction.
Bugs
- Obsidian is not currently listed as an economic stone (z > stone). You cannot switch between "use" and "not use", so you can only use obsidian for constructions if you embark in a biome with an obsidian layer. See the discussion page for a workaround. v0.31.03
