This article is about an older version of DF. |
Fortifications are a special type of Template:L. They allow the passage of Template:L [in and out] and liquids but not Template:Ls, making them an important part in a fortress's Template:L. Creatures with a [FLIER] tag can of course fly over and avoid these walls. One can build Template:L tiles to make a roof against flyers.
Beware that submerged fortifications will not block the passage of aquatic (or amphibious) creatures - wall Template:Ls and vertical Template:L work, but they are vulnerable to Template:Ls.
Curiously, a fortification carved into a tile at the very edge of the map will allow water or magma to drain through it and off of the map.
Building Fortifications
Fortifications can be built one of two ways. Firstly, they can be carved from Template:L walls or Template:Led natural walls by pressing designation and then Carve Fortifications. The second way is through the Template:L Template:L: First press b, then C followed by Fortifications. As with most Template:Ls, this will require one unit of Template:L, Template:L, Template:L, or Template:L. Note that constructed fortifications do not have walkable Template:Ls above them, while carved fortifications do.
