This article is about an older version of DF. |
Horses are domestic animals. They are used by caravans to pull wagons. They can be butchered for meat and are a sensible choice for breeding. Horses are sometimes brought along by immigrants, as pets. Dwarves cannot ride horses, but humans and elves can. Horses can be bought before embarking, but are quite expensive.
Horses also occur as wild animals in herds. They are harmless and peaceful, shying away from dwarves, but an inexperienced hunter who engages them in melee will soon find out that they are indeed much bigger than dwarves.
For reasons unknown, horses lack a [MAXAGE]
tag, so they will never die of old age. For additional reasons which are equally unknown, horses are apparently made of iron.
