Metalsmith is a category profession. It contains skills relating to the smelting of metals and alloys and the crafting of various metal products. Confusingly, the 'metalsmith' skill is available for purchase prior to embarking. This skill actually correlates to Blacksmithing.

An adult dwarf whose best skill is in this category and who has at least one other skill in this category whose level is more than half the level of the highest skill will be known as a "Metalsmith", otherwise they will be known by the highest skill alone.

For example, a dwarf who is a Talented (6) Metalsmith and a Competent (3) Weaponsmith will be known as a "Blacksmith" but will become a "Metalsmith" once Weaponsmith reaches Skilled (4). Confused yet?
