The Hammerer is a noble which is supposed to arrive with the Template:L - in version 0.31, however, bugs apparently prevent the arrival of any immigrant nobles. If your Template:L is busy, your Template:L is full, or a particularly heinous crime is comitted, the hammerer will deliver a series of hammerstrikes, most likely leading to death or serious injury for the criminal (most often a random metalsmith who couldn't satisfy a noble's Template:L for Template:L earrings).

It is recommended that you either injure your Hammerer to the point where he can't dispense his vigilante brand of Dwarven Justice, replace his hammer with a almost-harmless Template:L one, or trap him in a room and dump food down a hole for him to eat. Killing your Hammerer outright will likely lead to another one arriving later[Verify].

Notes in the dwarf entity raws suggest that Toady One plans on making the Hammerer's choice of Template:L modifiable in the future.
