Every respectable dwarven fortress has a developed (and occupied) catacombs system.

Coffins, caskets, sarcophagi or burial receptacles are Template:Ls for deceased dwarves and Template:L, used to store their Template:Ls or other Template:L. Dwarves prefer to inter their dead and pets in coffins/tombs rather than leaving their corpses to rot. Using coffins avoids Template:L, prevents the spread of miasma, and the ownership of a particularly nice or valuable tomb may give the owner a happy thought[Verify]. Template:Ls will often require a tomb, which is designated from the coffin, as part of their basic wish-list, or Template:L specific items in their tomb.

While coffins may be made out of a variety of different materials, a particularly well-crafted coffin made from a valuable material (like Template:L, Template:L, or Template:L) can greatly increase the Template:L. Once crafted, a coffin will be stored in a furniture Template:L until placed. Placing a coffin can be done from the Template:L (b and then n). Once it is Template:L to that location, it may then be designated as a Template:L and activated (allowed) for citizen burial.

In previous editions, Template:L would pop out of coffins, but this appears to have been resolved[Verify].

Failure to entomb or otherwise build a Template:L for a deceased dwarf may lead to Template:L...
