The Instrumentalist skills will be implemented in the next release. There will be "4 instrument skills", presumably one for each of the musical instrument classes (woodwinds, brass, percussion, and string). The code for the skills are in the game and functional[Verify], but are not implemented, making it currently impossible for a dwarf to gain experience in an instrument skill.

The presence of the skills in the game code likely means that items such as flutes and drums, which are now only useful as a trading good (but not very useful in that either) will be playable by dwarves in the future.
