Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A tiny winged insect, though exceptionally large for a dragonfly.

The Meganeura is a comparatively large, extinct insect from the Carboniferous period. It is an aboveground flying vermin found in savage temperate freshwater swamps, marshes and rivers, as well as savage temperate broadleaf forests during all seasons except for winter. Although it is refered to as a dragonfly in its creature description, it is not one, though it is closely related.

As with all real-world extinct creatures, it must be enabled during world creation to appear

Meganeura function as exotic pets and are not hateable, though they cannot be caught in built animal traps. Capturing a Meganeura requires the "Capture a Live Land Animal" job at a vermin catcher or butcher's shop.

Some dwarves like Meganeura for their disturbing size.
