This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Conversationalist is a social skill used by dwarves while making friends. Dwarves that are particularly good at this tend to make friends easily and will often rise to mayoral positions.

To train this skill, let dwarves idle and chatter amongst themselves. Dwarves who prefer to be alone and bashful dwarves used to never gain experience in this skill (but this does not seem to apply in this version, as a bashful dwarf at embark, with 0 exp in that skill, did gain 92 exp in conversationalist within 13 years and - for reference - the dwarf did only gain 364 exp in the other learnable social skills). It is possible that such dwarves will only gain exp slowly in this skill or are only able to gain skill, if the dwarf has some certain relationship (ie. friend) with the conversation partner. Additionally, dwarves who are put off by friendship and dwarves who are offended by leisure time may be unable to gain experience in conversing.[Verify]
