Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.
A man-like creature with the tail of a fish instead of legs.

Merpeople have the most detailed Template:L of any fanciful creature in Dwarf Fortress. This is pointless, however, as they have the [FANCIFUL] tag and will not appear in the game as anything but Template:Ls and Template:L.

The removal of this Template:L will result in the appearance of merpeople in Template:L-aligned Template:Ls, but the only practical reason to do this is flavor. Unlike previous versions of the game, merpeople bones are worth the same as those derived from domestic animals. This makes merperson genocide an economically unattractive proposition.
