However, a decently trained soldier will do nicely providing he has good armor, but you should probably use more than one to take it down, on the off chance the Toad gets a lucky hit. If you plan on using traps to dispose of them, you should probably note that even a large serrated iron disc, ''might'' not dispatch them. More often than not, they will die, but there's always the possibility that the right parts just weren't hit, so you should be wary of it limping around and biting Dwarves.

This article is about an older version of DF.
A giant amphibian predator found underground.

A giant toad is the very large and dangerous version of the regular toad. They are amphibious predators, which appear near and in subterranean water. It is able to destroy wooden buildings. Additionally, goblins frequently use them as mounts, which enables the goblins to travel via waterways; unfortunately, they usually get a rough reminder that they themselves are not aquatic creatures, leading to hilarity.

These animals have a quite good value as pets, and body parts gained at the butcher's shop are worth four times as much of those of domestic animals. However, they cannot be tamed or bred.

In terms of combat, they can definitely make short work of any working Dwarf unlucky enough to wander into one. (Which can happen quite often if you're not taking precautions in caverns, especially near the edges.)

However, a decently trained soldier will do nicely providing he has good armor, but you should probably use more than one to take it down, on the off chance the Toad gets a lucky hit. If you plan on using traps to dispose of them, you should probably note that even a large serrated iron disc, might not dispatch them. More often than not, they will die, but there's always the possibility that the right parts just weren't hit, so you should be wary of it limping around and biting Dwarves.
