This article is about an older version of DF.
A huge, predatory reptile found in coastal marshes and river deltas. It ambushes its prey at the shore and uses its great size to drag the victim under and drown them.

Saltwater crocodiles are large exotic reptiles. Found in many wetland biomes, these creatures are worth a considerable amount in pet value and are tamable.

Saltwater crocodiles have the greatest egg-laying potential of any animal in the game: a maximum of 70 eggs per clutch. This makes them ideal animals to use for Template:L. Considering the value of a single crocodile and the benefits of having 100+ tamed saltwater crocodiles watching over every dwarf in your fortress, a breeding pair can be quite valuable. Their use in the Template:L is hamered by the fact that they take three years to reach full size.

Though wild crocs generally do not wade far from the waters edge, they can be a major hazard to any dwarf whose job takes him near to the water's edge. Fortunatly, they are hard to provoke and most of the time will not chase your dwarves very far.
