This article is about an older version of DF.
A huge, predatory reptile found in coastal marshes and river deltas. It ambushes its prey at the shore and uses its great size to drag the victim under and drown them.

Saltwater crocodiles are large exotic reptiles. Found in many wetland biomes, these creatures are worth a considerable amount in pet value and are tamable. Saltwater crocodiles have the greatest egg-laying potential of any animal in the game: a maximum of 70 eggs per clutch. Considering the value of a single crocodile and the benefits of having 100+ tamed saltwater crocodiles watching over every dwarf in your fortress, a breeding pair can be quite valuable. Although they generally do not wader far from the waters edge. They can be a major hazard to any dwarf whose job takes him near waters edge, they are hard to provoke and most times won't chase you're dwarfs very far. But if an unarmored un prepared dwarf is confronted with one. He will be lucky to get away with only a few missing limbs.
