Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.
Not to be confused with river otters.
A small marine mammal with a long body. They enjoy eating shellfish and other small animals.

Sea otters are small amphibious creatures found in temperate oceans, where they appear in groups of 5-10 individuals. While carnivorous, they are benign and will generally not pose a threat to anything. A newborn sea otter is called a pup.

Sea otters can be captured in cage traps and trained into cheap exotic pets. Being as heavy as dogs and three times the weight of a river otter, they give a decent amount of returns when butchered, making them a potential base for a meat industry.

Some dwarves like sea otters for their playfulness, their fluffy faces and their simple tool use.

Admired for their fluffy faces.
