The black mamba is a very small species of poisonous snake. What distinguishes it most from other such creatures is the virility of is venom, with short-term syndromic symptoms including dizziness, drowsiness, strong pain, fever, unconsciousness, and complete paralysis, in ascending order to the size of the creature bit. For a small creature like a dwarf, a single bite is enough to kill a dwarf within seconds, as necrososis of the lungs quickly leads to suffocation.

They are solitary creatures that normally flee contact, but have a [PRONE_TO_RAGE:1] tag in their creature definitions, which means that about 1% of the time they will flip out on anyone they see. Mamba fangs are too small to pierce normal clothing reliably, but with some luck they can thereafter cause some real damage to your fortress. Overall, you're probably better avoiding them outright, unless you want them for their highly numbered egg-laying habits.
