Usage

Legendary beings, such as an ettin, associated with the spheres of art, beauty, dance, marriage, music, painting, poetry, song, or speech will have words from this symbol in their name.

Alongside FREEDOM, GOOD, and PEACE, and TRUTH, FLOWERY is one of the possible subsymbols available to good biomes.

Elves particularly value this symbol (as well as NATURE) and will include words from it to name citizens, sites and governments.

Other cultures, among them dwarves and goblins, don't use words from this symbol for their names.

Most art forms are considered FLOWERY, and thus are named using words from this symbol. Some forms, such as ribald poetry, use DOMESTIC instead.

SYMBOL:FLOWERY

This is the [SYMBOL:FLOWERY] section of the language_SYM.txt raw file. The file defines categories of words, for use with [SELECT_SYMBOL] and [CULL_SYMBOL] arguments in the corresponding entity file to create various pool of words available for procedural generation of game content (for example, Dwarf names). See Language#language_SYM.txt and Entity_token for more details.

Examples

  • [SELECT_SYMBOL:FLOWERY]
  • [CULL_SYMBOL:FLOWERY]

Accented characters

The language files are saved in code page 437 encoding. The accented characters in the language files look like nonsense when interpreted as ASCII or ISO 8859-1, which are often the default. On Windows, viewing the language file with the Terminal font is an easy way to see it correctly.
