A small aggressive snake which can move very quickly. Its venom is deadly.

The black mamba is a very small species of poisonous snake. What distinguishes it most from other such creatures is the virulence of its venom, with short-term symptoms including dizziness, drowsiness, strong pain, fever, unconsciousness, and complete paralysis, in ascending order to the size of the creature bitten. For a small creature like a dwarf, a single bite is enough to kill a dwarf within seconds, as paralysis of the diaphragm leads to suffocation.

They are solitary creatures that normally flee contact, but have a [PRONE_TO_RAGE:1] tag in their creature definitions, which means that about 1% of the time they will flip out on anyone they see. Mamba fangs are too small to pierce normal clothing reliably, but with some luck they can thereafter cause some real damage to your fortress. Overall, you're probably better avoiding them outright, unless you want them for their prolific egg-laying habits.
