Images where the original artist has been contacted

Images where the original artist has not been contacted

  • File:Giant_rat.jpg, used in giant rat, has apparently originally appeared in Wizards of the Coast's Monster Manual for Dungeons and Dragons fourth edition, based on Forgotten Realms wiki. No artist attributed, even though it is uploaded with Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license.
  • File:Tapir_man.jpg: credits bionictoast, the source is seemingly this reddit post.
  • File:Kestrel_woman.png, used in kestrel man: credits Kaivris, and the original artwork is seemingly this on reddit by a redditor of the same name. Unclear whether it is the same person as this kaivris.
  • File:Giant_Badger.jpg: original artwork made by Christopher Burdett for Paizo Publishing's Pathfinder Companion: Gnomes of Golarion.
  • File:Magma_crab.png: credits Piper.t, by art and signature I am quite sure Cryptid Creations on DeviantArt is the original artist. As their oldest art on the account is from 2012, it is probably this piece was made before that and thus not visible.
  • File:Necromancer_tower.jpg, used in Tower (necromancy): credits James Morgan. This is the probable original artwork on ArtStation, but strangely the images are not quite the same.
  • File:Giant_olm.jpg: credits Michael Brissie, this is the original artwork.
  • File:Beak_dog_killed.jpeg, used in beak dog: credits Kruggsmash, the original artwork is this Patreon reward. While a general question was asked to Kruggsmash about his art (see giant cave toad above), this being a Patreon reward it should be asked about specifically.
  • File:Red-currant.jpg (photo), used in fisher berry. Credits Inhabitat website, which is presumably this. Actual author is Tatiana Volgutova on Shutterstock. Claimed license cc-by-sa-3.0 is almost certainly incorrect.
  • File:Stone_layers_prev.jpg (photo) is from Terry Reimink on Dreamstime (the image even has the watermark on). Claims Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, which is almost certainly incorrect.
  • File:Dwarf_army2.jpg credits conorburkeart, who is on DeviantArt, but who has seemingly deleted all their art somewhat recently. Claimed license is cc-by-sa-3.0, but as the original artwork page isn't available, this can't be checked.
  • File:Iron_hatch_cover.jpg (photo) is from the manufacturers website. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, but no-one is attributed. On original website, only copyright notice is Copyright © 2021 EJ Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
  • File:Diamonds_many_colors.jpg (photo): geology.com uses the picture with a permission from IBD Fancy Colors LLC. Claimed license on wiki is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 , but there is no attribution.
  • File:Metamorphic_layer.jpg (photo): According to National Geographic, the author is James L. Amos. Claimed license is cc-by-sa-3.0, but there is no attribution. On National Geographics website, only copyright notice is © 1996 - 2021 National Geographic Society. All rights reserved.
  • File:Noble_dwarf.jpg is made by Tony Foti for Fantasy Flight Games' "The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game". Fantasy Flight Games is the copyright holder. Marked as "Uploaded with permission from the creator to use only on the Dwarf Fortress Wiki".
  • File:Mummy_tomb.png (photo) is from Jakub Kyncl. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but here is no attribution. On Kyncl's website, only copyright notice is Copyright © 2020 Jakub Kyncl. All rights reserved.
  • File:Flesh_construct.png is apperently from Wyrd Games' Malifaux. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but there is no attribution.
  • File:Old_library.jpg is a screenshot of a 3D-model made by 3dmodels-textures, who is selling the model on cgtrader. The image on this wiki is correctly identified as a Non-Free Web Screenshot, but no justification for its usage is provided.
  • File:Dwarf_scribe.jpg is made by Angevere on DeviantArt. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but no attribution is given.
  • File:Dwarf_scholar.jpg is Magali Villeneuve's art for Fantasy Flight Games' "The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game". Fantasy Flight Games is the copyright holder. Marked as Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 on this wiki, but no attribution is given.
  • File:Mouse_man.jpg, used in rodent man. No artist credited. Original image is FortunataFox' at DeviantArt.
  • File:Large_rat.png, used in large rat. No artist attributed, even though it is uploaded with Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 license. It is in fact a screenshot from a video located in a NewsArticle
  • File:Sedimentary_layer.jpg (photo) is claimed as Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, yet doesn't attribute anyone. The original image is Jeremy Woodhouse's photograph on Getty Images.
  • File:Molemarian.jpg, artist is 호우자 on twitter. Supposedly uploaded with permission from the creator to use only on the Dwarf Fortress Wiki.
  • File:Liche_priest.jpg (currently unused, previously used in intelligent undead) is Daarken's concept art for Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy Online. Games Workshop is the copyright holder. Claimed as Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0.
  • File:Dwarf_army.jpg, used in military, is a screenshot from Psychedelic Coffee's mod Rugged Dwarf Warriors for game Total War: WARHAMMER. Claimed as Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, but no-one is attributed.
  • File:Mud man.png seems to be from Pathfinder Bestiary 1. Claimed as Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, no attribution is given.
  • File:Steam2.jpg is from Andreas Altenburger's video on Shutterstock. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but there is no attribution.
  • File:Giant_deer2.jpg seems to be from Jim Hurley's article published by Gorey Guardian. Usually newspapers don't make their own artwork, but the article doesn't credit any artist, and no older instances of this artwork seem to exist on the Internet, so they might well be the original artist. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but no-one is attributed.
  • File:Wooden hive.jpg (photo) is from Williams-Sonoma's web store. Unfortunately, they don't allow visitors from the EU, so I (Tanamoril) can't check the license of the photo, but it's probably not Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, as is claimed on this wiki (with no attribution).
  • File:Giant_dragonfly.jpg is Lucas Lima's art for Earth Archive's article. This wiki claims Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 as the license (with no attribution), but on Earth Archive, only copyright information is © 2021 Earth Archives All rights reserved.
  • File:Giant_emu.jpg is John Sibbick's illustration, available for purchase on Science Photo. Claimed license is cc-by-sa-3.0 with no attribution.
  • File:Giant_elephant.png is Gen-Z's art, sold here as wall tapestry. Claimed as a Non-Free Web Screenshot.
  • File:Giant elk.jpg. This wiki claims that the image has been "uploaded with permission from the creator to use only on the Dwarf Fortress Wiki", which is clearly a lie, since the artist is Charles R. Knight, who died in 1953.
  • File:Fox man.png is Rowkey's art on DeviantArt. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, but there is no attribution.
  • File:Acorn_fly.jpg is Jim McClarin's photo, published on BugGuide. Claimed license on this wiki is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 (with no attribution), but BugGuide states Copyright © 2006 Jim McClarin.
  • File:Giant sponge.png (photo) is Janos's image on Adobe Stock. Claimed license on this wiki is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 (with no attribution).
  • File:Dwarf shield.jpg is Babanagoosh99's art from DeviantArt. Claimed license on wiki is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 yet there is no attribution.
  • File:Magma crab.png is from Piper Thibodeau's aka Cryptid Creations' tumblr. Claimed license on wiki is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but Thibodeau themselves state the following in their FAQ: "Can I use one of Cryptid Creations’ painting’s/ idea for a project? (personal, commercial, D&D, fakemons, OC’s, adoptables…) -A much as we hate being sticklers, we at Cryptid Creations have to say no in most cases. The looser we are about our intellectual property, the more likely it is to be abused, even if you have good intent. With that being said, we are open to talks concerning licensing. Feel free to reach out to our contact department at piper@cryptidcreations.com"
  • File:Dwarf fight.jpg, used in combat, is Artozi's art from DeviantArt. Claimed license on this wiki is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 (with no attribution).
  • File:Cavern2.jpg is a screenshot from Daelonik Artworks' package for Unity. Claimed license on this wiki is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 (with no attribution).

Unknown original artist

  • File:Animal_people_prev.jpg, used in animal people. No artist credited. The image is spread across the Internet, and other people outside this wiki also mention the fact that the original artist can't be found.
  • File:Gray_parrot_man.jpg, previously used on grey parrot man, and credited Kitty Eva'ros, though this track seemingly only leads to a Pinterest user of the same name with a bird-person album, and Pinterest accounts are seldom sources. Similarly to the previous image, this one seems so widespread it's impossible to find the original artist.
  • File:Recluse_spider_man.jpg: credits Jim-Cacclabando-Jr, but neither this person or the source of this picture could be found.
  • File:Dwarf_temple.jpg, found in temple: credits Kim Sung Min. The only thing I could find on this was this Pinterest post, by image searching "dwarf temple". Kim Sung Min may or may not be the name of the original artist, it also being the name of an actor makes the search difficult. The original image appears to be at ArtStation, as all pinterest posts link there, but it was deleted.
  • File:Pickaxe_transparent.png (photo) claims Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, yet doesn't attribute anyone. The image appears a lot on different websites, at least as early as 2012, but no author is seemingly ever credited.
  • File:Dwarf_magic.jpg. Unused image. Claimed license Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but there is no attribution.
  • File:Dwarf_book.jpg might be from Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Book of Grudges (3rd edition), based on Warhammer wiki. Claimed as a videogame screenshot.
  • File:Magma_flow.gif (animated), used in magma. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0, but no-one is attributed. Oldest use of the file on the Internet seems to be from user ineedtostealthis on microblogging website soup.io. Unfortunately, the website shut down on 20 July 2020, so this can't be verified, and it's possible that they aren't the author either.
  • File:Gold_bars_old.jpg (photo), used in gold. Claimed as a non-free web screenshot. Oldest hits on reverse search engine link to Mining Journal, and based on the file name, this article might be where the image originally appeared. However, it is behind a paywall.
  • File:Dwarf crossbow.jpg, used in crossbowman. Claimed as Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but no-one is credited.
  • File:Giant_echidna.jpg, claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 with no attribution. The image has been on Animal Pictures Archive from 16 September 2005, but the website says that the copyright belongs to the artist. However, the website rather unhelpfully states that the author is unknown.
  • File:Vermin-BloodGnat.jpg: No license claimed. The image appears on Chronicles of Arn wiki. However, the wiki itself states that "This Wikia uses a number of images and concept art found all over the internet."
  • File:Rats2.jpg (photo): The Telegraph credits Alamy. However, there's thousands of rat photos on Alamy, and this one couldn't be found. Claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but no-one is attributed.
  • File:Giant octopus.jpg (photo): claimed license is Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, but no-one is attributed. The image has been posted a lot on pinterest etc. during the last few years, but the image is at least five years old. No author was found.

Fixed

The following files previously appeared on one of the lists above, but their licencing issues have been fixed.

  • File:Vault2.jpg, used in vault: credits 000Fesbra000, the original artwork is this on DeviantArt. The license on DeviantArt is Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0.
  • File:Dwarf_justice.png, used in justice: credits gustav_black, original image is MK01's art on DeviantArt. It was listed as Creative Commons Attribute 3.0. The license on DeviantArt is Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0.
