A medium-sized herding animal. It is known for its short horns and beard.

Goats are small, milk-bearing herbivores. They should not be confused with the similarly named mountain goat. Their small stature means they will not yield much meat. They require as little pasture as sheep and are a good choice for starting a cheese industry.

The males are called "billy goats." The females are "nanny goats." The young are called "kids."
