A medium-sized mammal that lives in the trees. It is known for its easy-going nature.
Not to be confused with sloths

The sloth bear is a medium sized mammal found in tropical forests. Despite its name and some similar features, they are not related to sloths. They are related to bears, though they are smaller than most other bear species, being only half the size of a grizzly bear when fully grown.

Wild sloth bears can be attracted to a Fortress by food or drink, like other bears they will guzzle down any of it they can find unguarded. They can be dangerous with biting and scratching attacks, so armored dwarves are recommended to repel sloth bears. This behavior makes them easy to capture, however: using a cage trap or six around otherwise unguarded food stockpiles when sloth bears are in the area will usually net you some of them.
