Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Not to be confused with Surgeon, a job title possessed by some members of the healthcare profession.
A large oceanic fish covered with bony plates.
End of the world? Fear not, booze and time will get rid of this nightmare!

While most of the large fish of 40d are no longer dangerous, sturgeons are just as deadly as ever. As large as a walrus, they have a very strong bite attack, able to easily and rapidly remove the limbs from a human-size target.

Adventure Mode

Sturgeons aren't very common in adventure mode, but when you do see one you'll want to stay well away from it. Sturgeons are massive and can tear off limbs and cause fatal injuries very easily due to their size. Most adventurers also will not be able to match the sturgeon's speed while in the water. The best way to deal with sturgeons is to stay as far away from them as possible. If you must fight them, attempt to cripple their mouth and tail as these are their weapons.
