This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A huge monster in the shape of a mosquito.

Giant mosquitoes, as could be evidenced from the name and description, are oversized flying insects. As with standard mosquitoes, only female giant mosquitoes are able to suck blood. Giant mosquitoes appear alone, and are generally not much of a threat except to a single unarmed and unskilled dwarf. Giant mosquitoes may also appear as mounts during a siege, where their maneuverability and numbers may make them a substantial threat.

Like other giant insects, giant mosquitoes only live a single year, making them a poor choice for training or display. Concerningly, some dwarves prefer giant mosquitoes for their high-pitched buzz and ability to feast on blood.

History

D4Dwarf.png This article or section has been rated D for Dwarf. It may include witty humour, not-so-witty humour, bad humour, in-jokes, pop culture references, and references to the Bay12 forums. Don't believe everything you read, and if you miss some of the references, don't worry. It was inevitable.

Giant mosquitoes may have attempted what was the shortest claim at the throne of King of beasts for v0.34.01. Not only could they fly, but they appeared by the hundreds (exactly from 100 to 200 at a time), ensuring a large FPS drop to most forts and just plain being deadly in these numbers.
