Gorlaks are a playable race in [[adventurer mode]] as of version 0.42.04. At that time, due to missing the {{token|CANOPENDOORS}} [[Creature token|token]] in their raws and almost always spawning in dwarven [[hillock]]s or [[fortress]]es blocked by [[door]]s, their careers were shorter than most. This was eventually fixed in version 0.43.05, which gave them the ability to open doors. They can't be spawned in the [[object testing arena]].

Despite their appearance they are benign and so mostly harmless, although will sometimes cause job cancellations,Bug:3348 and occasional weak attacks against animals or sleeping dwarves. They are easily dispatched by even a novice military dwarf and/or most civilians. Gorlaks can learn, so they may visit a fortress. They can't be spawned in the object testing arena.
